Chance Mallory, a 5-foot-10 point guard out of Charlottesville (VA) St Anne’s-Belfield School, will be attending Virginia’s matchup against Virginia Tech on Wednesday night.

The four-star junior holds an offer from the Cavaliers and unofficially visited the school in September.

Along with Virginia, Mallory holds offers from Clemson, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, and others.

Mallory talks Virginia

In a recent interview with On3’s Jamie Shaw, Mallory discussed UVA.

“I’ve been around the basketball there since I was little, so when I went on my visit it was really to learn more about the school part and how their academics work. It’s very family-like for me there. I’m good friends with Eli (head coach Tony Bennett’s son) and Austin (Associate head coach Jason Williford’s son), so I’ve just been around their families a lot.”

Discussing other programs involved

Mallory also discussed Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Maryland in his interview with Shaw.

Virginia Tech: “They text me as much as they can. I have a great relationship with Coach (JD) Byers, and we talk a lot. They fit my play style almost perfectly. They run, they shoot, they screen, and they play defense.”

Clemson: “I learned how family-oriented their program is and how hard they work when I went to their practices. I feel like I can bring the defense that they stress and I like how they play team ball, move it around to get the best shot.”

Maryland: “They are always in contact with me. I’ve been up there twice for unofficials so far, so I have gotten to know their coaching staff pretty well. They always tell me they like how gritty I am on the court and how I can create and play defense.”

What he’s looking for in a school

“I like family, so I want to go to a program that is family-oriented and has a family atmosphere,” Mallory said previously. “No bad blood in the locker room. I want to play in a play style that fits me too. I’m a point guard who likes to run fast, get in transition, make shots, and make plays with the ball in my hand.”

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Mallory is the No. 83 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle. He’s also the No. 14 point guard prospect and the No. 3 player in Virginia. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
