Virginia cornerback Anthony Johnson snagged a pick-six in the Senior Bowl on Saturday, while paying special tribute to a fallen teammate. Johnson wore the jersey of Devin Chandler for the exhibition game, one of the three Virginia football players tragically killed during a campus shooting November last year.

Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry all lost their lives in the violence — sending a shockwave through the nation as people across the nation mourned the loss.

Anthony Johnson shows out in Senior Bowl

The 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl offers college seniors from around the nation who are preparing to enter the NFL Draft a chance to showcase their skills and network ahead of the draft. Johnson made the most of his opportunity by taking advantage of a poor pass by Malik Cunningham in the fourth quarter.

Johnson worked a shallow zone in coverage and released a receiver into the center of the field before picking up another receiver crossing into his area on the sideline. Cunningham was hit on the pass and lobbed the ball up in the air, where Johnson intercepted the pass easily and ran the ball in for the American team’s only touchdown of the game.

The National team eventually completed the win, 27-10 — but Johnson made a special memory for Virginia fans in honor of his slain teammate.
