A scary moment unfolded during Thursday night’s matchup between Virginia and No. 11 Louisville when Cavalier RB Perris Jones took a hit that left him motionless on the field at Cardinal Stadium. Now, after view updates at the moment, we officially have one from the program on Jones’ status.

Virginia shared news of Jones’ condition on Twitter after he went to the University of Louisville’s Medical center in an ambulance from the game. According to their tweet, Jones has thankfully “regained movement in all of his extremities” after taking the hit.

Jones took a head on hit within a pack of defenders toward the end of the third quarter in UVA’s matchup at Louisville. It’s worth noting that, after fumbling following the hit, WR Malik Washington scooped it up and actually scored to give the Cavaliers a lead. However, the attention immediately, and appropriately, turned to the health of Jones back around the 40-yard line.

Jones finished the night with three carries for seven yards. In his sixth collegiate season, that brought him up to 76 carries for 393 yards. He also has a pair of scores on the season.

Virginia went on to lose in a 31-24 defeat to the Cardinals. Even so, this news on Jones is the most important information from their night after what took place on the field.

Tony Elliott: Virginia received ‘encouraging’ news on Jones

Tony Elliott provided a promising update on Perris Jones in his postgame press conference.

Elliott said UVA received “encouraging” news on Jones’ condition from the hospital.

“We’re getting some encouraging news,” Elliott told reporters. “I know he’s in getting an MRI right now, but the news is encouraging. Before I make any public statement, I want to have all the facts and be accurate. I know that the initial reports that we’re getting are very encouraging, according to the medical staff.”

Jones caught a screen pass from UVA QB Anthony Colandrea in the backfield and ran upfield. That’s when he was met by a Louisville defender with a violent collision at the 42-yard line.

The Louisville training staff immediately attended to Jones on the field once he was down. As the trainers tended to him, the Virginia players locked arms as they held their collective breath.

Play was stopped for several minutes as Virginia’s medical staff tended to him and he was then taken to the hospital in Louisville, according to ESPN’s broadcast.
