Virginia commit Christian Bliss has reclassified into the 2023 class, bypassing his senior year of high school in order to enroll in Charlottesville for the upcoming school year, he told On3.

The current plan is for Bliss to redshirt his freshman season, a source told On3.

Bliss, a three-star point guard out of Newtown (Pa.) George School, committed to UVA in late-June over Villanova, Miami, and Xavier.

He ranked as the No. 117 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 15 point guard in the class.

Bliss’ ranking will be re-evaluated now that he is in the 2023 class.

Bliss on his decision to choose Virginia

In a previous interview with On3, Christian Bliss went in-depth on his commitment to UVA.

“I chose UVA because I believe in the vision the coaching staff has for the program and myself,” he said to On3. “I want to be around a group of people that will help prepare me for the next level and life. And most importantly to bring home a national championship.”

In his own words, what type of player is Virginia getting in Bliss?

“I am a leader who is always willing to sacrifice for the team’s success. I’m a versatile playmaker that can really do it all on both sides of the floor.”

He has a message for the fanbase.

“My message to UVA fans is you are getting a winner and a high character person, who is hungry to get better.”
