Old Dominion pulled off an upset of Virginia Tech on Saturday, being one of the shock results of Week 1 in college football. Unfortunately, most of the talk has been about postgame incidents after Hokies’ tight end Connor Blumrick ran over a fan storming onto the field.

Head coach Brent Pry provided an update on Blumrick’s situation, saying there is no plan to suspend the tight end going forward. Blumrick “felt bad” about the incident and was the one who suggested he provide an apology the following day.

Virginia Tech is set to take on Boston College this week, getting ACC play started early in the season. Pry has decided to not take any further action and since an apology was issued, things will be back to normal for Blumrick.

Against Old Dominion, Blumrick was not able to make an impact, having two targets and no receptions on the afternoon. The senior tight end is considered a reserve player for the Hokies.

Connor Blumrick issues apology after running over ODU fan

When Old Dominion completed the upset at home, their fans decided to celebrate the way many have over the years — storming the field. ESPN cameras caught people flooding onto the field and a few seconds into videos that went viral on Twitter, Blumrick was caught going out of his way to run through someone.

Blumrick issued an apology on Sunday, saying he regrets his actions. He added it was not a true relection

“I would like to sincerely apologize to ODU and Hokie Nation for my actions after last night’s game,” Blumrick wrote on Twitter. “Following an emotional loss, in trying to get to the locker room safely, there was an incident that included contact between myself and a fan, that I regret. This is not an accuration reflection of my character and I am truly sorry to those I have let down including my coaches, teammates and fans.”

Brent Pry provides injury update on WR Kaleb Smith

Blumrick was not the only thing Pry discussed on Tuesday. He also went through the injury report and gave an update on wide receiver Kaleb Smith.

Pry said Smith is “day-to-day,” meaning he has a chance to play against Boston College on Saturday. The redshirt senior was able to make an impact against Old Dominion over the weekend, having three recpetions for 45 yards. One went for 39 yards, setting a new career high.

If he is able to get back fully healthy and play in the ACC matchup, it would be a massive boost for Pry and Virginia Tech.
