Kaleb Smith played a significant role for Virginia Tech last season and is expected to be an important part of the Hokies’ offense in 2022. As Virginia Tech is now being led by new head coach Brent Pry, he’s already been impressed by Smith and the work he’s put in throughout the spring practice period.

Meeting with the media following this past Saturday’s Maroon vs. White spring game in Blacksburg, Pry spoke highly of the wide receiver and discussed Smith’s ceiling heading into summer workouts.

“Honestly, he’s one of our best workers,” Pry said of Smith. “When you’re going to come out and put your hard hat on every day and work like he does, you’re gonna get better – and he’s done that. He’s got a mature approach to this thing, he’s really consistent and I like what I see from him.”

Smith, a former On3 Consensus three-star recruit out of the Class of 2018, put up some solid numbers for Virginia Tech last season – recording 20 receptions for 260 yards and two touchdowns. Through three seasons with the Hokies, Smith has 469 yards and four touchdowns on 37 total catches.

While Smith has been a consistent target for Virginia Tech, Pry is expecting the wideout to take a big step forward in 2022.

Pry sends message to Virginia Tech fans following spring game

Meeting with the media following his team’s spring game, Pry sent a message to Virginia Tech fans thanking them for coming out and supporting him and his Hokies’ squad as they wrapped up the spring period.

“I’m glad you brought it up,” Pry said when asked what he thought of the atmosphere. “It was awesome. The fan base – unbelievable job coming out today. To be honest, the whole weekend’s been great. A lot of excitement and energy and support for Virginia Tech football, and with everything going on – softball, baseball.

“Just a really good vibe in Blacksburg today.”
