Virginia Tech F Mylyjael Poteat has entered the transfer portal.

Poteat started his career at Rice before spending the last two with the Hokies.

Poteat has appeared in 114 games between the two programs and played in just over a dozen minutes a game. In those outings, he averaged 5.7 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 63.5% from the field.

During his time in Blacksburg, Poteat has posted 4.9 points and 2.7 rebounds while shooting 64.3% from the field in 68 games.

Poteat played high school basketball at The Burlington School in North Carolina. He was unranked there as a member of the 2020 cycle.

With Poteat’s departure, he is the sixth loss for Virginia Tech in the portal since the start of the cycle. He joins Rodney Rice, Sean Pedulla, Lynn Kidd, MJ Collins, and John Camden. That group includes the team’s leader in points, assists, and steals in Pedulla and rebounds and field-goal percentage in Kidd. Camden was also first on the team in three-point percentage in limited action while Collins was second on the roster in assists and third in steals.

Rice is the only one of that collection to commit to a new school yet. He announced that he’d be going to Maryland earlier this week just a few days after entering into the portal.

Virginia Tech’s Sean Pedulla enters the transfer portal

Virginia Tech guard Sean Pedulla plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on his Twitter account on Wednesday morning.

Pedulla noted that while he will be in the transfer portal, he will also be “strongly considering a return to Virginia Tech” for his last season of eligibility.

The 6-foot-1 guard averaged a career best 16.4 points per game during the 2023-24 season. He also chipped in 4.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds, a well-rounded player and the heart and soul of the Hokies.

In three seasons at Virginia Tech, Pedulla has played in 102 games, while starting 66 of them. He is a career 35.5% 3-point shooter.

Sean Pedulla isn’t the only Hokies player who put his name into the transfer portal this week. On Tuesday, a pair of other players did in C Lynn Kidd and F John Camden.
