Virginia Tech quarterback Connor Lee Blumrick has issued an apology after he appeared to truck an Old Dominion fan who was rushing the field following the Hokies’ 20-17 upset loss Friday night.

As fans were making their way onto the field, several Virginia Tech players were trying to get out of the way. Brumlick was one of those, but as his path collided with one of the fans, he appeared to lower his shoulder.

“I would like to sincerely apologize to ODU and Hokie Nation for my actions after last night’s game,” Blumrick wrote on Twitter. “Following an emotional loss, in trying to get to the locker room safely, there was an incident that included contact between myself and a fan, that I regret. This is not an accuration reflection of my character and I am truly sorry to those I have let down including my coaches, teammates and fans.”

The game was a battle of two former Penn State coordinators as Brent Pry made his head coaching debut for Virginia Tech against former Nittany Lions offensive coordinator Ricky Rahne. The two coaches worked together in State College from 2014-19 before Rahne left to take the Monarchs head coaching job.

It was a rough start for Pry, who’s taking over a Hokies program that struggled mightily toward the end of the Justin Fuente era last season. He’ll look to turn things around when Virginia Tech takes on Boston College on Sept. 10.

Virginia Tech coaches get stuck in elevator vs. Old Dominion

In one of the wildest occurrences in college football history, the Virginia Tech coaches were stuck in an elevator before the start of the second half of Friday night’s game between Old Dominion and Virginia Tech. The delay lasted for 15 minutes before the second half officially began.

The first half was wild enough, with a bad snap on a Virginia Tech field goal attempt leading to a scoop and score for the Monarchs.

The Monarchs stunned the Hokiesin the first half of Friday night’s matchup. Virginia Tech lined up for a field goal late in the first quarter to try and stretch its lead to 10-3, but it was completely botched by the Hokies’ snapper and holder. The ball was loose in the open field and then a scrum ensued, sending the ball further down the field.

From there, the Monarchs pounced on the football, and it was off to the races for six points.
