Washington’s remained a constant in the recruitment of Glendora (Calif.) three-star tight Decker DeGraaf since offering him last May. He’s now rewarded the consistency.

DeGraaf announced his pledge to the Huskies on Sunday picking them over Arkansas following an official visit.

“This visit was big and I was torn between two really great programs and I couldn’t go wrong either way,” DeGraaf told On3. “Going on this visit, I could tell that I was really, truly valued not just as a player but as a person. Washington was my second offer and this staff has been talking to me almost every single day for over a year so the relationships are insane.

“I really feel like it’s a family there and I fit into that brotherhood.”

The official visit back to Washington was DeGraaf’s third time on campus. Prior to this last visit, the 6-foot-5, 230-pounder was in Seattle on April 22 for the Huskies’ spring game.

DeGraaf said the culture within the program is one of the biggest things that drew him to Washington in the first place.

“There’s no cliques and there’s no egos,” said DeGraaf, the No. 1,011 player in the 2024 class. “The janitor is just as high as Coach DeBoer and every player loves each other. They’re all out working on the field after the weight room.

“There’s a lot of winners who like to work hard and all have the same goal in mind.”

When it comes to DeBoer, DeGraaf said the best words to describe him would be ‘amazing’ and a ‘winner’. The two speak frequently and on top of football, DeGraaf says that they will both just speak about life and how things are going.

Having those talks with DeBoer and the previous visits helped DeGraaf really zero in that Seattle might be his future. He admits that it was midway through his official visit is when it became clear to him that Washington was the spot.

“It was midway though after I met with all of the coaches because I could truly tell how valued I am and how much of a priority I am for their staff,” DeGraff said. “I felt like I was truly valued here and I’m excited for the future.”
