Los Angeles (Calif.) Birmingham three-star wideout Peyton Waters took five official visits in May and June as he hoped to come to a decision in his recruitment.

Following those trips, the 6-foot, 160-pound speedster knew for sure he had a school in mind when he announced his commitment. And he did so Thursday afternoon, choosing Washington over UCLA, Utah and a handful of others.

“Washington has been a favorite for a while,” he told On3. “Utah was up there too, but as I dwindled it down, it came down to two. I had to make a decision, and it was Washington. I had a lot of great schools to choose from. Turning down Stanford was tough, too. But Washington was it.”

Waters visited the Huskies last weekend, and though they were the favorite going into his trip to Seattle, the visit only cemented what he had been feeling.

“On my official visit, I got that feeling that Washington was where I needed to be. They have everything: academics, the football program develops guys, and it really has strong family feel with everyone connected and wanting to work hard.

… I did my research on all of these schools on my list and it came down to the feel. It was unmatched at Washington.”

Washington’s recent success has Peyton Waters excited about the future

The Huskies are coming off their best season in recent memory under head coach Kalen DeBoer, and he and his staff made Waters feel as though he was a major piece to their success in the future.

“Washington made me feel wanted, the whole staff did,” he said. “Coach Chuck Morrell, Coach Lee Marks and so many of the coaches got to know me and made me feel like a priority. They were my third or fourth offer and they have been in contact ever since.”

DeBoer himself was active in Waters’ recruitment, and the talented receiver believes in the vision that he has.

“I love his direction of the program,” Waters added. “They had great season last year — 11-2. I feel I will get a chance to play early, get developed and play for a staff that I trust. We will will work hard there and we will win a lot of games.”
