Washington has signed first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer to a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the Huskies through the 2028 season, the school announced on Tuesday. DeBoer has Washington at 9-2 in his debut season after a dismal showing in 2021.

DeBoer’s original contract with Washington ran through the 2026 season and pays him $3.1 million annually as his base salary. The announcement from Washington didn’t specify a pay bump that was paired with the two-year contract extension, though it’s likely.

“We talk all the time about how it’s the people who set a place apart and Husky Nation is filled with some of the best we have ever encountered,” DeBoer said in the announcement from the school. “We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received and are excited to continue to build on the amazing tradition of success we have here at the University of Washington.”

Prior to being the head coach at Washington, DeBoer had two successful seasons as the head coach at Fresno State before taking the Huskies job. Prior to that, he was an offensive coordinator at Indiana.

“It is clear that Kalen is such an amazing fit at the University of Washington,” athletic director Jen Cohen said in the release. “He has come in and made an incredible impact in every aspect of the program, our department, the University and the Seattle community. Kalen is an elite competitor who approaches each and every situation with the utmost class and integrity. We couldn’t be more excited that he and his family will be on Montlake for the foreseeable future leading these tremendous young men in our football program.”

DeBoer now leads the Huskies into the Apple Cup against Washington State with a contract locked in and a 10-win season on the table.
