It was not the men’s college basketball season that the Washington Huskies envisioned. Washington finished the year 17-15 and missed the men’s championship tournament. Wednesday, the impact of their lackluster 2023- 24 season could still be felt as the Huskies lost a hometown recruit from the 2022 class. On3 has learned that point guard Koren Johnson has decided to enter into the NCAA transfer portal.

Johnson spent the first two years of his collegiate career with the Huskies and saw an uptick in usage from year one to year two. In his first year as a true freshman, the Seattle, WA native came off the bench in 29 games and averaged 6.8 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per contest.

This past season, Johnson saw action in 31 games, starting in five while averaging 24.2 minutes per game compared to last season’s 19.4. He saw increases across the board in field goal percentage, from .39 percent to .44, and three-point shooting percentage, from .32 to .37, to go along with his 11.1 points, 2.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per contest.

Johnson played high school basketball at Wasatch Academy in Seattle, WA, where he was a three-star prospect. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, he was the No. 132 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle.

Former Washington guard also enters transfer portal

Arkansas guard Keyon Menifield Jr. plans to enter the transfer portal, per On3’s Joe Tipton. He played one season at Washington before transferring to Arkansas. Now, Menifield will explore his options again.

Menifield averaged 7.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game this season for the Razorbacks while shooting 37.5% from the field and 31.7% from beyond the arc. In his debut campaign at Washington, Menifield reeled in Pac-12 All-Freshman honors.

Keyon Menifield Jr. played high school basketball at Phoenix Prep (MI), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 229 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
