Criminal compliant from Bob Huggins' DUI arrest released

West Virginia men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins was arrested for DUI on Friday evening while in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — and the details are very damning. On Saturday, the full criminal complaint on Huggins was released by Matt Norlander, which includes some pretty rough details. So, take a look below at a brief summary of the complaint and how Huggins’ arrest went down:

Per the complaint, officers pulled up to the scene and saw Huggins entering a car and then driving forward in it, when the officer noticed a flat tire, which he says was shredded “3/4 of the way around.” Once one officer approached the car and began to speak with Huggins, he reported typical signs of drunkenness, such as glassy eyes, slurred speech and a distinct alcoholic odor.

The report states Huggins did not know how his tire became mangled and had no idea where he was or how he arrived there. He was asked “approximately” 10 times what city he was currently in and answered incorrectly every time. Eventually, he produced a Burger King receipt from earlier in the day and said his sister-in-law lived nearby but “had no idea” where that was exactly.

Tests were then run on Huggins and the officers deemed that “every marker for impairment was seen” during their evaluation. He couldn’t follow hardly any rules for the impairment tests and failed to understand much of what the officers said to him. The officers also found a trash bag full of empty beer cans on the passenger side floorboard and another bag of bottles in the trunk along with an empty but wet cooler.

After the evaluation, Huggins was driven to the police station, where he was breathalyzed and blew an extremely high .210, indicating that alcohol was in his system and at far above the legal limit for operating a vehicle.

Amid this latest off-the-court circus with Huggins, the university has released a statement regarding the incident. It read:

“West Virginia University is aware of an incident last night involving Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bob Huggins, for which he was charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) in the City of Pittsburgh. We are gathering more information and will take appropriate action once the review is complete.”

Not a good day for WVU hoops. The 2023-24 season is closer than folks may think with classes getting started here in a couple months. Will the Mountaineers lose their coach and some of their roster just ahead of the season? It’s all in play right now.
