Less than three months after committing to West Virginia, Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods cornerback Cameron Calhoun has decommitted from the Mountaineers.

Winton announced Monday afternoon — following his official visit to Morgantown over the weekend — that he would be reopening his recruitment.

“To the University of West Virginia, I’m so thankful to have this opportunity to be recruited, and be committed to a wonderful university,” Calhoun wrote. “I would like to thank Coach Brown for believing in me and letting me be a part of the Mountaineer family. I would also like to thank the Mountaineer family for taking me in as one of theirs and treating me well since I’ve been committed. After further discussions and gathering information, me and my family have decided that I will be decommitting from the University of West Virginia.”

Calhoun chose WVU in March, somewhat surprisingly, over Kentucky and a handful of others. But he recently picked up an offer from hometown Cincinnati. And he has an official visit to Rutgers scheduled for next weekend.

He is the No. 703 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Calhoun also ranks as the nation’s No. 67 cornerback and the No. 19 player in Ohio.

On3 is a bit higher on Cameron Calhoun than the other major services, though, according to the Industry Comparison. In the most recent rankings update, he was tabbed as the country’s No. 46 cornerback and No. 13 prospect in Ohio.
