The Basketball Hall of Fame announced finalists for the 2022 cycle on Friday, with some of the top players involved in the game having the chance to be inducted. The entire list of finalists were revealed on NBATV, with current West Virginia Mountaineers head coach Bob Huggins earning the honor.

The official West Virginia men’s basketball Twitter account posted the moment Huggins was named a finalist, with his accomplishments being listed off one by one. He joins the likes of Tim Hardaway and Manu Ginobli (as players) as finalists to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

“Our next finalist was a three-year All-Ohio high school basketball pick and the 1972 Ohio Player of the Year. He began his coaching career in 1977 as a graduate assistant at West Virginia University. After stops at Akron, Cincinnati, and Kansas State, he returned to his alma mater as head coach armed with proven success as a program builder, recruiter, and game strategist. Since 2007, he has directed West Virginia to over 300 victories, including a conference championship, 12 postseason appearances, and a trip to the 2010 NCAA Final Four. Overall, he’s masked over 900 wins during his coaching career, ranking him third in total victories among active Division I head coaches. Named a finalist by the North American committee, as a coach, Bob Huggins.”

Huggins is currently in year No. 44 of coaching, spanning over the four previously mentioned schools. He has won 11 regular-season conference championships and 10 conference tournament championships — most recently with West Virginia back in the Big East during the 2009-2010 season. Huggins has been one of the most consistent coaches in the country during his time, with a winning percentage near .700.

West Virginia has made 30 career NCAA Tournament appearances, with Huggins being in charge for a third of them.

Huggins will find out if he does get inducted to the Hall of Fame during the Final Four in April. If the head coach does get inducted, the ceremony will take place Setp. 9-10 in Springfield, Massachusetts.
