Malachi Moreno, one of the top big men in the 2025 class, will be taking an unofficial visit to Xavier on Wednesday. The 7-foot center from out of Great Crossing High School (KY) will be in attendance for the Musketeers game as they take on UConn, the reigning national champs.

The four-star recruit been experiencing the recruitment process fully, as this is his ninth college that he’s visited. Moreno has also been on the campuses of Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

Moreno is the No. 21 overall prospect in the 2025 class, according to On3’s Top-150 Player Rankings. He’s also the No. 3 center and the No. 1 player in the state of Kentucky.

“I think my overall skill has improved this season,” Moreno told On3’s Jamie Shaw. “I can really shoot the ball now and that has helped my game a lot. And I’ve gotten stronger which is helping me beat and bang in the post. My game has definitely expanded. I’m watching a lot of Anthony Davis. We have a similar build, he had an insane growth spurt in high school, grew to 6-foot-11, and is lanky like me. He could block shots, make threes, score in the mid-post, and all that. So I am just trying to take bits and pieces from his game. I really like how Rudy Gobert plays.”

In a previous interview with On3, Malachi Moreno discussed what he’s looking for in a school, as well as a timeline for a commitment.

What he’s looking for in a school

“Just a family environment,” he says. “Going into college as an 18-year-old kid, I’m going to be like everyone else and be a little homesick. So just being able to feel like I’m at home and feel like each of my teammates are one of my brothers. It would be special to me. And just being able to grow my faith and grow as a man because the ball is going to stop bouncing at some point. I know God will put me in the right spots to succeed and as long as I keep growing that relationship, I’m alright.”

Commitment timeline?

“I know I want to make a commitment by next June,” he says. “Thats my deadline. I don’t plan to be one of those that commits his senior year because scholarships can be taken at that point. I don’t want to wait all the way and then possibly get injured and lose my scholarships so I want to get done with some AAU tournaments, see what else comes my way, and then make a decision from there.”
