Jonathan Powell, a four-star shooting guard in the class of 2024, has committed to Xavier, he told On3.

The 6-foot-6, 180-pound junior out of Dayton (Ohio) Centerville chose the Musketeers over Clemson, Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Virginia Tech. He becomes the first player to commit to Xavier in the 2024 class.

Powell went in-depth on his commitment to Xavier with On3.

“My decision to choose Xavier over any school came down to who me and my family feels can develop me into being a next-level talent,” Powell said. “I also like the program and coaching staff a lot and I feel at home, especially with the relationship my uncle had with Coach Miller. I feel coach Miller has my best interest in me as a student-athlete.”

What type of player is Xavier getting in Powell, in his own words?

“My game I feel is very raw and natural,” he says. “All the work I put into my game behind closed doors will show in years to come. I’m an unfinished product but when coach Miller and the staff get their hands on me after my senior season, I’ll be very polished up and ready to show that.”

Powell has a message for Xavier fans.

“I just want to let all the fans of Xavier know I’m coming home and the goal is to win it all. Expect a lot from me, on and off the court, to carry the winning tradition and Xavier name high!”

Powell Scouting Report

“Jonathan Powell is a lengthy and rangy off-guard. He is a natural ability to score from each level. He has a good handle in the half-court, where he gets to his spots. The jump shot has good balance and a consistent release. He needs to work on shot prep off the ball and tighten his angles and footwork. There is positional size, confidence, and nice athleticism. His father was a double-digit scorer at Eastern Michigan.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Powell ranks as the No. 90 overall prospect in the 2024 class. He’s also the nation’s No. 19 shooting guard and the No. 1 player in the state of Ohio.
