Tupelo (MS) 4-star defensive lineman JaReylan McCoy continues to whittle his recruitment down ahead of his planned June 1 commitment date. McCoy has a long list of offers on the table, and last trimmed his leaderboard down to five teams. On Thursday afternoon, McCoy cut things down again, this time to a top three of Florida, LSU, and Texas. Of those contenders in play for McCoy, the Florida Gators will have the first crack at hosting him on an offical visit this weekend.

The Florida Gators view JaReylan McCoy as a top target in the 2026 recruiting cycle. UF started to hit the gas in their pursuit of McCoy around the start of the year. Contact with the Gators is taking place daily, with multiple staff members involved.

“We talk almost every day,” McCoy told Gators Online regarding his contact with Florida. “It’s Coach [Gerald] Chatman, Coach [Jeremy] Patterson, or Coach [Billy] Napier. I talk with Coach [Canon] Gibbs, too. That’s my dog. He’s from Mississippi, like an hour away from where I am. We talk just about every day.”

Leading up to the official visit this weekend, the Florida Gators last hosted JaReylan McCoy for a few days during spring football. The Gators have been viewed as a legitimate contender for the 6-foot-6 1/2, 245-pounder since then. However, UF started to get its footing here well before that trip.

“It wasn’t really even the spring visit, honestly,” McCoy said of when Florida really jumped on the scene of his recruitment. “The way the staff was coming at me before that to recruit me. That was before me even going down there. Florida’s always been one of those dream schools for me, but I saw how they were coming at me in December and January. I’m not going to lie, I fell in love with the coaching staff and the way they treat their players.”

On3 scouting take on JaReylan McCoy

Physically gifted defensive lineman with a huge frame and plus athleticism as a high school underclassman. has measured in over 6-foot-6.5 and close to 250 pounds prior to his sophomore season. Owns plus length for the position with 34.25-inch arms. Registers as a top athlete, running a 4.89 second 40-yard dash at Student Sports’ All-22 camp. Lines up as a big defensive end for his high school. Physical gifts are readily apparent on Friday nights. Flashes good speed and functional movement skills. Closes to make some impressive plays. Has upside as a run defender, using his big frame to body offensive linemen. Still early in his development. Likely not done growing and could see his frame maxing out at north of 300 pounds. Size and athleticism make him one of the early top defensive linemen in the 2026 cycle.

The On3 Industry, a weighted average of the four major recruiting services, ranks JaReylan McCoy as the nation’s No. 161 Overall player. He’s set to visit Florida (May 30), Texas (June 6), Ole Miss (June 13), and LSU (June 20) before his July 1 commitment date.
