The Packers are hoping Aaron Rodgers dodged a bullet with the injury he suffered during Sunday Night Football.

According to Adam Schefter and Rob Demovsky of ESPN, Rodgers was worried about the possibility of puncturing his lung after leaving the game against the Philadelphia Eagles, and now he’s set for an MRI to check the damage.

“Aaron Rodgers was worried he punctured his lung last night when he was having a hard time breathing, but X-rays did not show that, per @RobDemovsky,” tweeted Schefter. “Rodgers will undergo additional testing today on his ribs to see if there are any fractures.”

Last night, Rodgers was seen wincing in pain and holding his side near the end of the third quarter, and NBC’s Melissa Stark revealed that he suffered an injury to his ribs. The quarterback finished out the remainder of the drive at the time, but was seen jogging to the locker room after a field goal from Mason Crosby.

“Before this drive, Aaron Rodgers was surrounded by the medical staff,” Stark said. “He had a conversation with the doctor and head athletic trainer they were poking and prodding at his ribs. The front side, the back side. You could see him grimacing in pain and then walked over and put his helmet on and is clear back in, but we’re monitoring the situation.”

Later in the broadcast, it was revealed that Rodgers suffered an oblique injury and he was seen returning to the sidelines without a jersey or pads on, indicating he is done for the evening. The Packers trail the Eagles 34-23 at the end of the third quarter.

Prior to his injury, Aaron Rodgers was 11-of-16 passing for 140 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions and had been sacked three times for a loss of 17 yards. Packers backup and former first round pick Jordan Love came in for relief, completing 6-of-9 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown.

With the loss, the Packers fell to 4-8 on the season, and the question now becomes is the juice even worth the squeeze when it comes to Rodgers getting back on the field. Perhaps Green Bay will let Rodgers heal up for next season while getting an extended look at Love over the remainder of the season.

Nevertheless, time will tell what the MRI says regarding Aaron Rodgers, but it’s a microcasm of the disappointing season Green Bay has gone through to this point.
