The Cincinnati Bengals have opened up their 2022 training camp without their star signal-caller, Joe Burrow, after he recently had an appendectomy earlier in the week to remove his appendix. The team’s head coach, Zac Taylor, recently provided an update on one of the game’s most promising stars.

“I don’t have any timetable,” Zac Taylor said on Saturday, via Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “We’re just trying to give him some privacy, and I’m sure he’ll be back when he’s ready.” Once Burrow finally makes his way back to the field, there will likely be an acclimation period to get him adjusted to being a full participant in practice. The Bengals’ head coach decided to not make any predictions on that front. “That’s hard for me to predict right now, so I’ll just stay away from making that prediction,” Taylor said.

An appendix surgery shouldn’t create long-term problems for Joe Burrow. An appendectomy is a relatively common procedure to remove the appendix. Most patients are able to leave the hospital within 48 hours and get back to normal activities within a few weeks. However, playing quarterback in the NFL isn’t a normal activity for most people and everyone recovers from procedures at their own pace.

Joe Burrow has always been a tough player. While playing for LSU in the Fiesta Bowl against UCF, Burrow took a blindside shot from UCF’s Joey ConnorsHe popped up and used it as motivation to win the game.

The NFL has taken note of his toughness too. Following the Bengals’ playoff win over the Tennessee Titans, coaches praised Joe Burrow for his toughness.

“I hate to compare anybody to Brady, but he might be the closest thing,” one anonymous NFL coach said. “What, did he take nine sacks in that playoff game [against Tennessee]? Didn’t flinch. Hung in there. He’s just got a toughness about him and the ability to think through a game.”

Cincinnati’s first preseason game is against the Arizona Cardinals on August 12th at 7:30 PM EST.
