Cincinnati Bengals announce Joe Burrow taken to hospital
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow went to the hospital after the loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon, according to the Bengals.
Burrow may have a throat contusion, a severe bruise/injury, which may have occurred when he took a big hit from Packers safety Darnell Savage in the second quarter.
Joe Burrow scrambled on third down and took a walloping from Savage instead of sliding.
The former first-round draft pick was able to walk off the field and to the sideline under his own power as the Packers led 9-7.
Burrow got the thumbs up from the Bengals medical staff to re-enter the game for the next drive.
The former national championship winner from LSU answered with a 70-yard bomb to his Tigers teammate Ja’Marr Chase to bring the Bengals within a field goal. Burrow went 26-for-38 on the day for 281 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Packers won 25-22 in overtime.
After the game, the quarterback had trouble speaking, so he did not participate in media availability.
Joe Burrow’s totals through five games are 1,269 yards passing, 11 touchdowns, six interceptions and 14 sacks. His completion percentage going into the Packers game was 72.9%.
The Bengals take on the winless Lions in Detroit next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
Bengals celebrate game-winning field goal, kick was no good
The Cincinnati Bengals believed they had won the game on an overtime field goal, celebrating on the field before realizing it was no good. The kick appeared to be good from 49 yards, and Bengals kicker Evan McPherson started celebrating with his teammates without realizing it broke left at the last second.
McPherson was not alone with his missed field goal. Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby missed three of his own before finally nailing the game-winner in overtime. Two kicks went wide left and one more went off the right upright.

Burrow, Chase connection is strong
In 2019 at LSU, Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase proved to be arguably the best quarterback-receiver duo in all of college football. Burrow threw for 5,671 yards and 60 touchdowns. Chase hauled in 84 receptions for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns. LSU went undefeated and won the national championship.
The dynamic duo continue to use that strong connection with the Bengals organization.
After winning the September Rookie of the Month award, Chase has caught one more touchdown. He now five from Burrow and he posted a 159-yard, 6-catch day versus Green Bay. He’s just the second receiver, under 21, to reach 400+ receiving yards and five scores through the first five games of the season, joining Randy Moss.
