For former Texas A&M Aggies defensive star and Cleveland Browns superstar defensive end Myles Garrett one image typically pops into mind for fans when they think of him. That is the one from the Cleveland Browns 2020 Monday night matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he swung a helmet at Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph‘s head. Since then, Garrett has been working to change the perception of him as a person and a player, and the NFLPA has taken notice. Recently Garrett has been involved in multiple community projects in the greater Cleveland area. And his recent work with kids who experienced poverty has earned him the Week 1 NFLPA Community MVP, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Recently Garrett hosted his inaugural two-day back-to-school kickoff. At the event, more than 250 local Cleveland children dealing with poverty were provided with many back-to-school essentials to start their school year. Garrett provided the children with such things as school supplies, haircuts, and hair styling.

Coming into the league in 2017 as the number one overall pick in the draft, Garrett has been a relatively quiet and reserved individual. Even after the incident on Monday Night Football, teammates of the former Aggie spoke to his class and character both on and off the field. Garrett may not get the approval of individuals who still cash judgment upon him for the Monday night incident. However, it’s safe to say that he has at least 250 young fans who truly appreciate his giving heart and spirit. And that was worthy of earning the Week 1 NFLPA Community MVP honor.

Texas A&M continues rise up On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings

Good news on the recruiting trail had been somewhat sparse coming into the month of September for Texas A&M.

The Aggies had just nine commitments, and top-50 cornerback commit Bravion Rogers had backed off his pledge after announcing for the Aggies in April. Following the best class in modern recruiting history in the 2022 cycle, A&M was stuck in neutral in 2023. The wheels are turning now, though.

On Tuesday night, Rogers re-committed to Texas A&M, becoming their fifth commitment ranked in the top 75 nationally. Less than 24 hours later, four-star Austin Westlake (Texas) offensive lineman T.J. Shanahan has joined the fold, giving the Aggies another elite prospect from inside the state’s borders.

Shanahan’s commitment also moved A&M’s class up again in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings, leapfrogging Florida State, Michigan State, Arkansas and South Carolina into the No. 16 spot. Prior to Rogers’ commitment, the Aggies sat at No. 27.

The 6-foot-4, 325-pound Shanahan is the No. 117 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 7 offensive lineman and the No. 21 recruit in the state of Texas.
