The Sacramento Kings selected Iowa forward Keegan Murray with the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. The franchise believes in Murray as the best fit for their current team. They will anticipate on him helping them make a push to end their 16-season long playoff drought.

First things first, though, will be signing his first NBA contract. The deal was expected to be sizeable as a Top-5 selection in the draft. Based on early reports, they suggest it will be just that.

Per Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti, Murray will sign a two-year contract that comes with two team options. The first two years start at $16 million and the options will be worth a total of $19 million. That adds up to a contract worth four years, $35 million for Murray

Murray exploded as a sophomore for the Hawkeyes. He jumped emphatically in points per game from 7.2 to 23.5 in his second campaign. He significantly improved in every statistical and percentage category last season. That earned him a spot on the All Big Ten First Team and as a Consensus First Team All American.

He helped lead Iowa to a Big Ten Tournament Championship this season. The conference named Murray as the MVP of the tournament after averaging 25.8 points and nine boards in their four contests. That success would be short lived, though, as the Hawkeyes would go on to lose their NCAA Tournament opener to Richmond as a No. 5 seed.

While Purdue’s Jaden Ivey or Arizona’s Bennedict Mathurin may have projected as better prospects, Sacramento believes Murray can impact their franchise from day one. He’ll play alongside De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis as the Kings try to finish with their first winning record since 2006.

Once he signs his contract, Murray will make his first appearance with the Kings during the California Classic portion of the NBA Summer League on July 2nd and 3rd.
