The Dallas Cowboys officially decided to move on from their offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, on Sunday evening, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. The split between the Cowboys and Moore was a mutual agreement between both parties. He’s one of the bright young offensive minds in the National Football League, but Dallas felt a change was needed after their disappointing finish in the 2023 NFL Playoffs.

More specifically, Kellen Moore and Cowboys’ head coach Mike McCarthy received a lot of heat for their bizarre final play-call against the San Francisco 49ers in the 2023 NFL Playoffs, in which they thought it was a great idea to line running back Ezekiel Elliott up at center. Elliott was steamrolled on the play, and the Cowboys didn’t get very far, before the game was over and the 49ers won 19-12. It was yet another devastating dose of heartbreak for Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones.

That shouldn’t take away from the success that Moore has had over the past few years with the Dallas Cowboys. He even interviewed for the head coaching position at Boise State back in 2020. Moore was of course, one of the greatest players in Boise State football history during his prolific playing career there. He threw for 14,667 passing yards, while tossing in 142 touchdown passes and just 28 interceptions. Moore also became the first quarterback in FBS history to win 50 games during his career.

Dallas has announced that head coach Mike McCarthy will be calling the plays moving forward.

There is plenty of blame to go around in the Cowboys organization. Dak Prescott underachieved in 2023 and that’s putting it mildly. He did play brilliantly against the Buccaneers in the playoffs this year, but tossing 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions is surely not what Jerry Jones had in mind when he gave him a monster contract.
