There are a lot of questions surrounding the Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott as he tries to recover from thumb surgery on his throwing hand. However, during a recent appearance on a local Dallas radio show, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones was asked a unique question about his quarterback. During the appearance, Jones was questioned whether or not the team would be interested in contract extension talks with Prescott. Not being afraid of the moment, the Cowboys EVP took the question head-on and gave an answer Prescott would approve of.

“Our quarterback is Dak Prescott. He’s our franchise quarterback. We’re always up for looking at anything with Dak,” said Jones, according to Cowboys reporter Jon Machota.

During the latter part of his career, Prescott has dealt with injuries more frequently, including a broken ankle that sidelined him for most of the 2020 season. But when healthy, the former Mississippi State bulldog is one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL and has led the Cowboys to the playoffs multiple times.

Prescott’s recent run of injuries might give the Dallas front office some pause. But Prescott is still under contract with the Cowboys for another two seasons. That gives Dallas plenty of time to figure out what they want to do with their star quarterback in the long run and monitor his health from now on.

Jerry Jones explains Dallas Cowboys’ offseason decision to trade Amari Cooper

Amari Cooper was a major loss for the Dallas Cowboys offense over the offseason. Cooper played the last three and a half seasons with the Cowboys where he caught 292 passes for nearly 3,900 yards and 27 touchdowns. However, Jerry Jones made the call back in the spring to trade him to the Cleveland Browns.

Amidst Cooper’s hot start in Cleveland, Jones went into further detail about why the franchise elected to make that deal. With the contract Dallas had him on, Jones says the team could no longer justify spending it in that area, regardless of how great of a player it meant they were losing.

The Cowboys signed Cooper to a five-year, $100 million deal back in 2020. As the roster progressed, though, they realized that spending that much on a top receiver wasn’t worth it. The team still owing Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott a significant sum of money likely didn’t help his case either. According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the deal saved the Cowboys $16 million worth of cap space at the time for this season.
