COVID-19 has continued to run through the Dallas Cowboys organization. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has now tested positive for COVID.

Additionally, Schefter reported that the Cowboys are dealing with multiple positive tests right now.

“As one league source just said: ‘there are up to eight positives in Dallas,” Schefter tweeted. “Details still rolling in.”

McCarthy joins a long list of Cowboys staffers on the Reserve/COVID list. Offensive line coach Joe Philbin, assistant offensive line coach Jeff Blasko, and offensive coaching assistant Scott Tolzien are all on the Reserve/COVID list right now. All of them will miss Thursday’s game at the New Orleans Saints, as will offensive lineman Terance Steele.

Dallas was also without multiple coaches and players on its Thanksgiving day loss to the Las Vegas Raiders due to COVID issues.

COVID continues to run through the Cowboys

On Thanksgiving last Thursday, the Cowboys were without multiple players because of COVID. Wide receivers Amari Cooper, TJ Vasher and Robert Foster and tight end Blake Jarwin were all on the Reserve/COVID list. Assistant strength and conditioning coach Cedric Smith was also in COVID protocols for the Cowboys. Cooper is expected to return on Thursday.

As COVID runs through the Dallas organization, there are issues on the field as well. The Cowboys entered November with a 6-1 record. But the last month has changed things around Dallas. The Cowboys opened November with a disappointing 30-16 loss to the Denver Broncos. Dallas bounced back with a 43-3 win over the Atlanta Falcons, but fell 19-9 to the Kansas City Chiefs in the following week. On Thanksgiving, the Cowboys lost 36-33 in overtime to the Raiders.

The Cowboys now sit at 7-4 on the season, with their lead on the rest of the NFC East dwindling. The Philadelphia Eagles lost to the New York Giants on Sunday, meaning the Eagles are now 5-7. Additionally, the Washington Football Team plays the struggling Seattle Seahawks on Monday night. Washington will improve to 5-6 with a win.

Dallas takes on New Orleans on Thursday before getting into the heart of NFC East play. The Cowboys then face Washington and the Giants in consecutive weeks. Then, Dallas hosts Washington and Arizona before wrapping up the regular season in Philadelphia.
