Report: Miami Dolphins request to interview Dallas Cowboys coordinator
The Dallas Cowboys have become a focal point for the Miami Dolphins as they seek their new head coach.
On Monday, the Dolphins made one of the most surprising coaching moves in recent history on Monday by suddenly ousting Brian Flores, who closed out the year with his squad playing better than ever.
Clearly ownership has a much different vision in mind.
NFL Insider Ian Rappaport reported that Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator is a target for Miami.
“The #Dolphins have put in requests to interview #Cowboys OC Kellen Moore and #AZCardinals DC Vance Joseph for their vacant HC job, sources say,” Rappaport tweeted.
The news came just hours after the other big-name coordinator in Dallas was attached to the new Dolphins gig.
One of the most popular names to pop up has been Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Miami Dolphins are the latest team wanting to interview him.
Quinn is currently preparing to face the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round of the NFC playoffs. He has been a key figure in turning one of the franchise’s worst defenses ever into one of the reasons Dallas is playing January football.
Miami is looking for a head coach after letting go of Brian Flores. He led the Dolphins to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in 18 years but problems from within the organization led to owner Stephen Ross deciding to move on from Flores.
The Chicago Bears, the Denver Broncos, and the Jacksonville Jaguars have requested to interview Quinn as well. However, he is adamant that all of his attention is on San Francisco for this weekend’s playoff game.
“I’m not trying to avoid it or to be coy. There’s just simply nothing to report on on my end,” Quinn said about being offered jobs. “When job changes happen and coaches are let go, it’s a difficult time for them, their families, the assistants, the team, everybody that goes into that. So listen, it’s nice to hear if someone is interested. That’s not lost on me. I had a difficult 2020 season that didn’t go so good, so that’s not lost on me.
“But there’s really nothing to add on my end. There’s not a lot of time management or anything that has to go into mind other than just kicking ass and being right where my feet are. Hopefully, we can just talk Niners today because that’s really where my heart and my head are moving forward.”
Quinn seems ready to coach for Dallas in the playoffs. When asked about how excited he is, the defensive coordinator responded with some passion.
“I’m damn fired up,” Quinn said emphatically. “You kidding me? I’m ready to go.”
His defense will now have the task of being able to stop quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers rushing attack. A win would lead the Dallas Cowboys closer to their first NFC Championship appearance since the 90s.
