NFL insider provides the latest timetable for Dak Prescott's return to the field
The Dallas Cowboys won’t have quarterback Dak Prescott participating in practice on Wednesday, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Rapoport shared the intel on Wednesday morning after the star QB had the stitches on his thumb removed.
“Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is not expected to practice today, having just gotten his stitches out of his surgically repaired thumb. This week appears too ambitious though he does have an outside shot for next week vs. the Rams,” Rapoport tweeted.
Monday night, Dallas escaped the New York Giants with a 23-16 victory behind backup QB Cooper Rush. Rush has started in Prescott’s place since his injury in Week 1. Most of the optimistic timelines after the injury pinned the Week 5 game versus Los Angeles as his first opportunity to return.

On Tuesday, ESPN reporter Lisa Salters shared an update straight from the Mississippi State alum.
“There’s still some swelling in his thumb but he said it feels great,” Salters reported. “He was going to talk to the doctor right after and hopefully, start gripping and throwing the football again.”
The Dallas Cowboys were far from 100% during their Monday Night Football victory in New York over the Giants. Obviously, Prescott was out, as was No. 2 wide receiver Michael Gallup and starting tight end Dalton Schultz. Despite the major hit to the passing game, they still came away victorious.
Jerry Jones reveals latest on Gallup, Schultz
After the game, Jerry Jones joined 105.3 The Fan to update the status of the two injured pass catchers.
Jones’ update, as tweeted by Jon Machota of The Athletic, revealed the Cowboys opted to go with the cautious route for both players.
“At the end of the day, the player has to feel right,” said Jones. According to Machota, Jones expressed that Schultz and Gallup did not feel right on Monday. Lastly, Jones added: “We let those guys make the call. They’ll be out there next week in all likelihood.”
Also after the win, Jones talked about Prescott’s timeline for return. He said his recovery is ahead of schedule and this week will be about determining just how far along he is.
“I think his progress is nothing short of amazing,” Jones said. “It’s a question of whether or not he’ll be able to grip and throw the ball, and we don’t know that.”
