When the Dallas Cowboys take on the Chicago Bears this weekend, they’ll likely be without a top weapon. The team released an official status update on Ezekiel Elliott ahead of the matchup at AT&T Stadium along with the final injury report on Friday.

Elliott is listed as doubtful and didn’t practice at all this week as he deals with a knee injury. He suffered the setback last week against the Detroit Lions, but played on despite initially walking off the field. Despite his doubtful status, Dallas owner Jerry Jones said Elliott will likely miss Sunday’s game against Chicago.

A notable name to appear on the injury report this week was Micah Parsons, who’s dealing with a shoulder injury and is officially questionable for Sunday. He was a limited participant on Thursday and had the same status on Friday, and it appears he might not be at full strength this week.

Jerry Jones explains thought process behind sitting Ezekiel Elliott

Jones explained the decision to sit Elliott during one of his regular radio appearances on 105.3 The Fan on Friday, saying next week’s bye played a role in making the call.

“It had everything to do with how we’re doing this, this weekend with this bye coming up. I’m not so sure we would’ve done it this way had we not had the bye,” Jones said.

The bye week would give Elliott two weeks of rest before the stretch run starts, and Jones said it’ll be a wait-and-see approach to make sure he’s at full strength.

“This just gives too good of an opportunity if we don’t use Zeke, and we’ll see how he is responding as the week goes along, but if we don’t use him, it’s just too great of a time to get him in top shape,” Jones said.
