Michael Gallup exits Cowboys season opener

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup exited the Cowboys season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with an ankle injury and was listed as questionable to return, per the NFL.

Gallup exited the game after posting four catches for 36 yards in the first half against the Buccaneers. He was targeted once in the third quarter prior to his exit. He did not return in the Cowboys 31-29 loss on Thursday night.

In the loss, the Cowboys held steady in Dak Prescott’s return to football after a devastating ankle injury that ended his 2020 season in Week Five. Prescott threw for over 400 yards and three touchdowns along with an interception. Amari Cooper was on the receiving end of 139 yards and two touchdowns, while CeeDee Lamb posted a 100-yard game of his own, notching 104 yards and a touchdown on seven catches.

The reigning Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers looked strong in their debut. Now in his 22nd season, 44-year old Tom Brady threw for 379 yards and four touchdowns, along with two interceptions. Brady found Antonio Brown for 121 yards and a touchdown, Chris Godwin for 105 yards and a touchdown and tight end Rob Gronkowski for 90 yards and two touchdowns.

Michael Gallup’s Colorado State career

Michael Gallup is in his fourth season in the NFL after being drafted in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. In his career, Gallup has posted 2,457 yards and 13 touchdowns. His best season came in 2019, as the Colorado State product had 1107 receiving yards and six touchdowns, averaging a career best 16.8 yards per reception.

In college, Michael Gallup transferred to Colorado State in 2016 after two seasons at Butler Community College. In two seasons, Gallup posted 2690 yards and 21 touchdowns. Gallup received 2x All-Mountain West honors and was a second-team All-American in 2017.

Coming out of Monroe Area High School (GA.), Gallup played four sports. As a senior, Gallup played wide receiver and running back. Gallup notched 28 receptions for 637 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns, 37 carries for 484 yards and 7 rushing touchdowns.
