Former Green Bay Packers star Davante Adams made a blockbuster move to the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason and was rewarded with a massive contract extension which makes him the highest played wide receiver in the NFL. The trade sent multiple draft picks back to his former team in exchange.

On Tuesday, NFL.com writer Nick Shook revealed the reason behind Davante Adams desire to play in Las Vegas moving forward with a quote from the two-time All-Pro.

“I have a lot of family in California that’s never been to see me play before,” said Adams. “Just kind of reflecting and thinking about life things and stuff that really matters in this world, that’s stuff that matters to me.”

Adams is a Redwood City, California native who played college football at Fresno State alongside Derek Carr before going No. 53 overall in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. The move from the NFC North to the AFC West brings him much closer to home.

Over his eight years in the league, Davante Adams has 669 receptions for 8,121 yards and 73 touchdowns while playing for the Packers. He now reunites with his former college teammate with a chance to build on his numbers while on a record-setting contract.

Adams could not come to contract terms with the Green Bay Packers and now, he’s headed to Las Vegas in one of the biggest trades of the 2022 offseason. The Packers are receiving a first and a second round selections in the 2022 NFL Draft via the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for star wide receiver Davante Adams, according to Ian Rapoport.

Adams is also signing a five-year contract with Vegas once the deal goes through, according to Adam Schefter.

Adams will now play with former Fresno State teammate and quarterback Derek Carr. The Raiders came up in free agency rumors before Green Bay used the franchise tag on Adams. He reportedly told the Packers he wouldn’t play on the tag and the two sides weren’t able to come to terms on a new deal.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who just signed a new deal to stay in Green Bay for the next four seasons, was aware of these developments, too. The blockbuster trade for Adams is one of, if not the biggest acquisition of the 2022 off-season thus far. His presence in Green Bay will be missed dearly, as he had incredible chemistry with Rodgers over the years.
