Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf was not present at the team’s mandatory minicamp Tuesday, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The news comes with the two sides still in talks about a potential contract extension ahead of the 2022 season.

It should also be noted that Metcalf underwent foot surgery at the end of this past season and is still going through the rehab process. With that being the case, the injury could also have had something to do with his absence.

Metcalf is slated to make $4.3 million this upcoming season in the final year of his rookie contract. Both sides have said they envision coming to an agreement on the extension at some point in the future, but when that might be remains a mystery.

“I will say we are going to get something done,” Metcalf told the Seattle Times. “I think I’m going to be in Seattle for the next coming years, yes sir.”

The Ole Miss product has impressed across his first three NFL seasons, totaling 216 catches for 3,170 yards and 29 touchdowns. He earned his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2020 following a career-high 1,303 yards receiving. His 12 touchdowns from this past season were also a career-best.

The Seahawks traded quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos this offseason, causing many to speculate DK Metcalf could be dealt as well. Seattle finished just 7-10 this past season and missed the playoffs, and don’t appear on paper to be a major contender in 2022. However, coach Pete Carrol later reiterated that he views Metcalf as an integral part of the team’s future.

“We don’t plan on him going anywhere else,” he said. “We want him to be with us.”

How much Metcalf would stand to make from a potential contract extension is also up in the air. His former college teammate AJ Brown recently agreed to a four-year extension with the Tennessee Titans worth $100 million. Brown received a $40 million signing bonus as part of the deal and his average annual salary is around $25 million. That could be a good barometer for what Metcalf expects out of his extension.
