Florida Gators CF Hayden Yost named SEC Player of the Week

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — For the sixth time this season, a Florida Gators player has received a weekly award from the conference. Sophomore outfielder Hayden Yost was named the sole recipient of SEC Player of the Week honors on Monday after his stellar weekend at South Carolina to help UF sweep the Gamecocks.

Yost (3-for-5, 1-for-2) produced a four-hit day during Sunday’s doubleheader and homered in the finale. In the series opener on Friday, Yost robbed a potential two-run homer from Kennedy Jones on a miraculous leaping catcher over the wall and then hit a two-run shot of his own to right field that cut the deficit to 4-3.

“A guy that probably gets overlooked sometimes is Hayden Yost,” Florida coach Kevin O’Sullivan said after the sweep Sunday. “He swung the bat extremely well today, you know, his home run there really opened up that second game.”

Yost drove in multiple runs in all three games of the Gators’ first sweep in Columbia since 1996, including their first road sweep overall since 2021. Yost’s eight RBI led the entire SEC last week, and he added at least one hit and scored a run in every game at South Carolina.

Entering the series with one career home run, Yost homered twice over the weekend while also tallying six runs scored. He drove in three runs apiece in both games on Sunday and posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage while playing every inning in center field.

Across the three-game sweep, Yost finished 5-for-10 with a .500/.615/1.100 slash line. The Tampa, Fla. native also added three walks and stole two bases in two attempts.

For Yost, Monday’s announcement marks his first-career SEC weekly accolade and he is the fourth different Gator to earn recognition from the league this season.
