The Dallas Cowboys training camp is underway, and former Oklahoma star CeeDee Lamb is looking great early with spectacular catches. Video today confirms he’s still performing at the level his promising rookie season showcased.

CeeDee Lamb’s career so far

The former 2019 Consensus All-American wide receiver from Oklahoma was a standout player in college. In his three seasons with the Sooners, Lamb averaged 19.0 yards per catch for 3,292 yards and 32 touchdowns. His All-American season alone he racked up 1,327 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns, along with an additional score in the running game.

His speed and talent made him a great prospect for the NFL and he was drafted 17th for the 2020 season by the Dallas Cowboys following his junior year at Oklahoma. He joined former teammate Marquise Brown in the pros, who was drafted the year before by the Baltimore Ravens.

His first year in the NFL was a success by any metric, despite the injury plagued offense the Cowboys had in 2020. Without quarterback Dak Prescott, and with an offensive line missing four starters to injury or retirement, the passing game is set to improve in 2021. Even with these issues, Lamb pulled in 74 receptions for 935 yards in his rookie season. A top-30 statistical performance is impressive alongside one of the best receivers in the league, Amari Cooper. Sharing touches with Cooper and wideout Michael Gallup, Lamb still made his mark on the Cowboys offense.

Dak’s return and an increased role with the team

All predictions for the Cowboys’ 2021 season start with mentioning the return of Dak Prescott. An improved offense would almost surely spell success for the former Oklahoma star CeeDee Lamb. Even his role with the Cowboys seems to have improved as he is currently second on the depth chart above Gallup. The lowest number statistically that Lamb faced in 2020 was touchdown production, so an increase there is the expectation. All three of the Cowboys starting receivers managed only five touchdowns each last season.

His route running looks to improve with experience, and moving from the slot will likely mean an increase in targets. But with three good options for Dak to choose from it’s difficult to say how many he’ll see. If he can continue to get open like he is in training camp, he’s certain to make the most of his opportunities. Already in training camp he’s pulled in a one-handed catch, alongside plenty of leaping grabs over defenders.
