Joe Haden's agent reaches out to Pittsburgh Steelers about extension

Joe Haden would like to see his NFL career end with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Pro-Bowl cornerback is entering the final season of his contract with the Steelers.

Drew Rosenhaus, Haden’s agent, has approached the franchise regarding an extension for his client. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news.

“Joe wants to finish his career with the Steelers if possible,” Rosenhaus told Schefter.

What Joe Haden brings to the Steelers

Haden joined the Steelers in 2017, signing a three-year $27 million deal just hours after bing released by the Cleveland Browns. He re-signed with Pittsburgh in 2019, agreeing to a two-year, $22 million extension.

He started 14 games last season for the Steelers, finishing with 52 tackles and two interceptions, including a Pick Six. The interception returned for a touchdown was his first during his time in the Steel City and the second of his NFL career.

Haden, 32, was a top-10 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Drafted by the Cleveland Browns, he spent seven seasons with the team. He had an outstanding rookie year with six interceptions and 18 passes defended and was a two-time Pro Bowler during his time with the Browns. But he struggled with injuries and consistency later on in his time with the Browns, leading to his release.

Since joining the Steelers in 2017, Haden has resurfaced as an elite cornerback. Pittsburgh has relied on him as its starting left cornerback, and his 2019 campaign was strong enough to be earn a spot int he Pro Bowl. In 146 career game, he has 29 interceptions and has defended 149 passes.

Dominant career at Florida

Haden played under Urban Meyer at Florida from 2007 to 2009. He started immediately as a freshman, playing 12 games and finishing with 63 tackles and an interception.

He helped the Gators win the national championship in his sophomore season, finishing with 87 tackles and three interceptions. In Florida’s win over Oklahoma in the BCS Championship Game, Haden tallied 10 tackles and three pass breakups.

The Florida cornerback put together his best season as a junior and was named a unanimous All-American and first-team All-SEC selection. Haden had his most production, too, racking up 68 tackles and three quarterback sacks. He also pulled down four interceptions.
