The Florida State Seminoles hit their first road bump of the season this weekend with their 31-21 loss to Wake Forest. The Top-25 ACC matchup came down to a handful of plays that the Seminoles weren’t able to complete. They all led to their first mark in the loss column and Jordan Travis wasn’t happy with that.

Travis talked about all of FSU’s missed opportunities during his press conference after the defeat. He described how frustrating it is to shoot yourself in the foot when a big game is within grasp.

“It’s very frustrating. It sucks for sure but it shouldn’t come down to that type of stuff. That’s what bothers us the most,” said Travis. “It was the drives that shouldn’t have come down to a field goal, shouldn’t have come down to a hard situation.”

The first thing you have to look at is the Seminole’s penalties. Florida State committed 11 penalties that cost them 96 yards. That put them behind the chains at times which led to just 21 first downs and a 36.4% third down rate. Add in a lost fumble from Travis and the Seminoles did more than enough to take themselves out.

Travis now wants to see better from himself and his teammates this week. With another matchup against a ranked NC State coming this weekend, they’ll have their chance at yet another big win. However, they’ll need to clean it up before heading to Raleigh. After a week of work, though, Travis is more than confident that Florida State will be just fine again versus the Wolfpack come Saturday.

“It comes down to us. We’ve got to execute on the first and second downs,” said Travis. “We can’t get to third and long and make penalties. It’s just the little focus penalties that we’re losing. Coming out third and 15, second and 15? It’s tough obviously. But we’re gonna come back to work this week. We’ll be good.”
