Green Bay Packers center Josh Myers got an A in his preseason debut with the Packers, according to NFL.com’s Chad Reuter. Myers played a little over a quarter against the Houston Texans but showed a lot of promise in that time. The NFL newcomer showed that he has all the tools to make it in the league.

Preseason Highlights

Reuter highlighted a few of his key plays against the Texans and had this to say about his performance.

“If Myers’ first quarter-plus of work is any indication of his future play, Green Bay will be just fine at that position,” he wrote. “In the run game, he pancaked a defender on one play late in the first quarter and proved agile enough to stay with defensive tackles down the line of scrimmage on later stretch plays. His powerful punch stopped linebackers when combo-blocking and helped both guards in pass protection.”

Myers also threw a key block on what will be his final play of the night. He took out Kamu Grugier-Hill on a screen pass which resulted in a touchdown scored by fellow rookie Kylin Hill.

Myers was the third-round pick of the Green Bay Packers selected with the 62nd pick overall. As starting center and team captain, he helped lead the Ohio State Buckeyes to an eighth-ranked rushing offense in 2020. And in the year before they were ranked fifth with an average of 266.8 yards per game. Blocking for high-profile quarterbacks is not unfamiliar territory for Myers. At Ohio State, he was responsible for keeping Heisman Trophy finalists Justin fields safe and upright.

Myers on the Packers

The former Buckeye is one of three centers competing for the starting position. Another former Buckeye in Corey Lindsey was the starting center for Green Bay last year. And although Lindsey put together a season worthy of being voted first-team All-Pro, he elected to take his talents to Los Angeles and join the Chargers. He was also recently ranked in the NFL’s top 100 players of 2021 at #60.

Myers is currently listed as the starting center for the Packers. So, barring a massive letdown in performance or an untimely injury expect for him to be snapping for last year’s MVP Aaron Rodgers. Myers is joining an offensive line that finished last year ranked second in offensive line efficiency according to Pro Football Focus. If Josh Myers’s preseason debut is any indicator of how he will perform this season Aaron Rodgers and the Packers looks to be in good hands at the center position.
