The Los Angeles Rams have added Jake Peetz as an offensive assistant, per NFL reporter Ian Rapoport. Peetz was most recently the offensive coordinator for the LSU Tigers this past season.

Under his direction, Tigers quarterback Max Johnson threw for 27 touchdowns, the fourth-most in school history. LSU ranked fifth in the SEC in passing offense, finishing the year 6-7 and earning a trip to the Texas Bowl.

With his move to Los Angeles, Peetz reunites with Sean McVay, whom he worked with as a receivers coach in 2014 with the NFL’s Washington team. McVay was the offensive coordinator that season as Washington went 4-12. Peetz has also worked with the Raiders and Panthers and coached under Nick Saban in 2018 as an offensive analyst for Alabama.

A Nebraska native, Peetz began his coaching career in 2006 at Santa Barbara City Community College. He moved into the college ranks by the next season when he took a job at UCLA as a defensive assistant. Another change would follow in 2008, as he joined the Jacksonville Jaguars staff as a scout.

McVay left Washington in 2017 to take his first-ever head coaching job with the Rams. After making the Super Bowl in 2018 but falling to the Patriots, McVay notched the first Super Bowl win of his career this past season. At 36, he became the youngest coach to ever win a Super Bowl, and the Rams have expectations to compete for another in 2022.

Peetz will join an offense that features star receiver Cooper Kupp, who led the NFL in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in 2021. The new Los Angeles Rams assistant joins a unit that finished second in the league in passing touchdowns and fifth in passing yards. With quarterback Matthew Stafford set to return for at least one more season, they have a chance to again be one of the league’s top passing attacks.
