As the Los Angeles Rams gear up to defend their title as reigning Super Bowl champs, the team has announced a few roster moves as they head into training camp. According to NFL.com, the Rams have announced they are placing All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

To fans of a team and the former Florida State Seminoles stand out, the news of him being placed on the PUP list to start training camp is no surprise. During the offseason, Ramsey underwent surgery to repair a tear in his left shoulder. Ramsey played much of the 2021 season with tears in both of his shoulders.

During the season, Ramsay struggled with his play at times, but he was still able to give consistent cornerback play throughout the season, despite the injuries. Last year Ramsey recorded 77 tackles, 66 solo, nine tackles for loss, recovered a fumble, defended 16 passes, and had four interceptions. He finished the year being named to his seventh consecutive Pro Bowl team and second consecutive first-team AP All-Pro.

McVay provides update on Ramsey

The Rams do not appear to be too concerned with Ramsey being on the PUP list to start training camp. During a press conference on Friday, Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay provided an update on his star cornerbacks status.

“He’s doing good, been attacking the rehab the right way. He’s feeling good,” McVay said. “When we did do that surgery on him, obviously most importantly was how he felt about it, but then with the goal in mind of, alright, attack the rehab the right way, and most importantly, be ready for Sept. 8, ready to go. So we’ll be smart about that progress for him.”

For the Rams, the priority is getting Ramsey healthy and ready to go when the season kicks off in September. As long as their All Pro corner is ready to go come week one, McVay, who is also famously known for not playing his veterans during the preseason, will not have any problem with one of the teams top defenders sitting out and recovering until then.
