Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is being evaluated for a concussion, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Stafford previously cleared concussion protocol earlier in the week. He was replaced at quarterback by Bryce Perkins during the Rams’ game against the New Orleans Saints.

Stafford left the game with a stat line of 11-for-18 for 159 yards and two touchdowns. One of his touchdown passes was a 62-yard pass to Tutu Atwell for a touchdown, Atwell’s first touchdown of his NFL career.

When Stafford was previously in concussion protocol, head coach Sean McVay addressed the backup quarterback situation for the Rams. McVay appeared to be confident in John Wolford to handle the duties.

“We’re not going to be ready to rule anything out,” McVay said, according to the team website. “I know Matthew’s going to do everything in his power to try to be able to be ready, and we’ll see. We’ll just take it a day at a time. But John’s a guy that, when he’s been in these situations, he’s stepped in and done a really good job. It wasn’t too long ago that he had to come in, in a game that we had to have to be able to get into the playoffs, and he performed incredibly well.”

Rams, Stafford continue to struggle

Just one year removed from winning the Super Bowl, Stafford has struggled to have success in the air. Through eight games this year, Stafford has 1,928 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. Stafford is not the only one struggling in Los Angeles, though, as the entire team has taken a step back from its Super Bowl caliber play last year.

The Rams are looking to snap a brutal stretch of losses at this point in the season. Los Angeles has lost three straight games and five of its last six to fall to 3-6 overall on the season. The defending Super Bowl Champions sit in last place in the NFC West.
