After helping lead the Los Angeles Rams to a Super Bowl LVI victory, Matthew Stafford effectively rewrote the trajectory of his career. Stafford spent 12 seasons in Detroit trying to heave the Lions towards success. He was traded to LA last offseason and did exactly what Sean McVay and the franchise hoped he’d do as the Rams’ upgrade at quarterback.

Now with next season coming closer, LA is prepping for a run at a repeat. One player not participating in the Rams offseason program, though, is Stafford. He received an anti-inflammatory shot during the offseason in his right elbow to heal a nagging injury from last season. He didn’t throw this week but says he hopes to be back by the time training camp rolls around.

“Just trying to make sure that we’re smart,” said Stafford. “But, at the same time, be as ready to go as I can possibly be Day One when we’re out there throwing the ball around.”

Stafford threw for the third-most yards in a season of his career with 4,886. He also threw a career-high tying 41 touchdowns. All those throws also put a strain on this elbow injury that the team needed to take care of this summer. With it progressing well, Stafford says he’s ready to get back out and start throwing to his receivers again.

“As I’m progressing personally, I’ll be around the guys. We’ll find time,” he said. “That’s the great thing about being in Southern California – Everybody wants to be here anyways. It’ll be great to get out there and get some work with (them). As I kind of get myself ready to go, I’ll be able to steal some reps with some of those guys.”

The Rams showed their gratitude for Stafford with a 4-year, $160 million extension this summer. Now, they’ll need their million dollar man back in time to chase a second straight Super Bowl. The first step will be seeing him throw again when they return to the field next month for training camp.
