In what was a highly anticipated matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football, scary scenes took place. Tua Tagovailoa took a sack in the second quarter before staying on the ground. Eventually, he was rushed to the hospital with head/neck injuries and ruled out for the game.

Now, some positive news has come out of the situation. Amazon’s Kaylee Hartung reported that Tagovailoa would be released from the hospital on Thursday night. He will travel home with the Dolphins back to Miami — an encouraging sign from a frightening-looking injury.

“We’ve just learned that Tua Tagovailoa is expected to be discharged from the medical center here in Cincinnati and the team tells me they believe he will be traveling back to Miami with them tonight,” Hartung said during the broadcast.

The Dolphins confirmed the news after, shedding a positive light on an otherwise dreadful situation.

“QB Tua Tagovailoa is expected to be discharged from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and will fly home with the team tonight,” Miami’s Twitter account said.

Tagovailoa was having a solid game before the injury, completing eight of 14 passes. While he did throw one interception, the success seen in the first three games of the season was playing out in front of a primetime audience.

Thursday was not the first scary injury moment Tagovailoa was involved in either. Last week against the Bills, he fell down after a play but it was blamed on back injuries. Somehow, he was ready to go just four days later.

NFLPA announces statement after Tua Tagovailoa

The NFLPA released a statement Thursday night wishing the best for Tagovailoa, who was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center — a Level 1 trauma center — after the big hit. The Dolphins confirmed he had full movement of his extremities and was conscious after the play.

But the league is also looking into how Miami handled Tagovailoa the last time he suffered a big hit. That was just four days ago against the Buffalo Bills, and the NFLPA said an investigation is ongoing after Thursday’s injury.

“Player health and safety is at the core of the union’s mission,” the NFLPA wrote via Twitter. “Our concern tonight is for Tua and we hope for a full and speedy recovery. Our investigation into the potential protocol violation is ongoing.”
