Mike McCarthy declares Cowboys WR Michael Gallup out Sunday vs. Bengals
The injury bug has hit the Dallas Cowboys hard and early in 2022. If anything, they could use some positive injury news heading into Week 2 against the reigning AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals. That just won’t be the case when it comes to wide receiver Michael Gallup.
After tearing his ACL last season, Gallup is nearing a return to the field. With Thursday being his first day back in pads, though, Mike McCarthy made it official that he will also be amongst the Cowboys who are out this Sunday.

Gallup has been a reliable option at wideout for Dallas over his four seasons. He has caught 193 passes for nearly 3,000 yards and 15 touchdowns since 2018. His torn ACL was a setback but, with no Amari Cooper, he will have an even bigger role in the Cowboy’s offense this season.
Without Dak Prescott and some other key offensive pieces, Gallup missing an additional week isn’t too big of a deal. Mike McCarthy is just playing it safe with a weapon he’ll need as Dallas continues on. Another week of full practice next week could get him back on the field next week against the NFC East rival New York Giants.
Dallas Cowboys release Thursday injury report vs Cincinnati Bengals
The Dallas Cowboys’ Thursday injury report didn’t change much from Wednesday’s. Dallas released its second injury report Thursday afternoon ahead of its Week 2 showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals. Based on what is showed, Mike McCarthy’s team will be short handed this weekend.
Michael Gallup remained limited as he deals with a knee injury, while offensive lineman Connor McGovern, safety Jayron Kearse and defensive end Tarell Basham missed their second straight day of practice. Quarterback Dak Prescott also didn’t participate as he expects to miss multiple weeks following surgery on his fractured thumb.
Dallas is coming off a season-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is preparing to take on Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Cooper Rush is expected to be under center while Prescott works his way back from his injury.

Did not participate — DE Tarell Basham (thigh), S Jayron Kearse (knee), G Connor McGovern (ankle), QB Dak Prescott (right thumb)
All four players who didn’t participate in Thursday’s practice left the season opener against Tampa Bay with injuries. Kearse was the biggest blow on defense and was seen on crutches as he left the stadium, which doesn’t bode well for his return. McGovern’s injury adds more questions to the already depleted offensive line, which now has to protect Rush after Prescott went down.
Jerry Jones announced the surprising decision to keep Prescott off the injured reserve following his thumb surgery. If Prescott ended up on IR, he would have to miss a minimum of four games, but Jones said there’s a chance he could return before that time. He’ll likely be a DNP in practice for some time as a result.

Gallup didn’t play in the season opener, but has started to work his way back in practice after tearing his ACL in January. Getting him back would be quite a boost for the Cowboys’ receiving corps alongside CeeDee Lamb, but it’s unclear if he’ll end up being a full go against the Bengals on Sunday.
