The Cowboys and future Hall of Fame tackle Jason Peters are working together to bring the longtime NFL vet to Dallas after a”successful visit this past week,” per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The deal isn’t done yet, but with mutual interest on both sides, the NFL insider believes the deal could be signed by as early as Monday.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones discussed the move to a local Dallas radio show on Friday, saying Peters underwent a physical and the two met As of Jones’ interview, Peters was apparently already at the Star in Frisco — the Cowboys’ facility — for his physical, according to ESPN’s Jane Slater.

Peters has played 17 years in the NFL and 15 as a left tackle — a position the Cowboys are in dire need of filling following the injury to veteran Tyron Smith, who has been with the team since 2011 and has held down Prescott’s blindside since his career began in Dallas. In 11 seasons, Smith has earned two First-Team All-Pro bids, as well as eight Pro Bowls — all coming within the last nine seasons with 2020 being the only exception as he only played in two games.

How do you replace that kind of production? Just bring in one of the most respected and tenured left tackles in the league.

Peters, who played last season with the Bears after spending 11 seasons in Philadelphia, made the Pro Bowl in nine consecutive years during the prime of his career from 2007 through 2016. Two of those seasons came with the Buffalo Bills, the team that drafted him out of Arkansas, and was awarded First-Team AP All-Pro honors during the 2011 and 2013 seasons.

With both sides showing major interest in one another, the deals seems all but inevitable and Cowboys fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing Dak Prescott‘s blindside is protected by one of the best to ever do it.
