According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Chris Wormley is out for the season after tearing his ACL. Head coach Mike Tomlin previously described the injury as a “serious” one as the diagnosis is now known.

#Steelers DE Chris Wormley tore his ACL and is out for the season, source said,” Rapoport said. “Coach Mike Tomlin called the injury ‘significant.’”

Wormley has played in 13 games for Pittsburgh this season but only made one start. Even so, he has been an important part of the defensive line rotation, recording 29 tackles, 0.5 sacks, and forcing a fumble.

The Steelers will have to look elsewhere to replace his production, even if they find a way to squeak into the playoffs. Hopefully, Wormley will be ready to go for the beginning of the 2023 season. While players have been able to return from torn ACLs on quicker timelines recently, there is still a large amount of time missed.

Wormley was originally a member of the Baltimore Ravens before going across the AFC to play for the rival Steelers. He was a third-round pick coming out of Michigan, spending five seasons with the Wolverines and being named first-team All-Big Ten in the 2016 season.

Mike Tomlin provides update on Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin provided an injury update for quarterback Kenny Pickett on Tuesday following an injury he sustained versus the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

According to Steelers writer Teresa Varley, Tomlin confirmed that Pickett has in fact entered concussion protocol but nothing is definitive regarding his status for their next game against the Carolina Panthers. Varley also added that Picket’s status will be day-to-day, but Tomlin does value participation in practice, and if he can work he’ll work, but if not reps will be split between Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph.

Pickett went down early in the Steelers’ latest matchup, as he was sacked hard by Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith on their first offensive possession of the game. It appeared that Pickett’s head my contact with the ground on the play and he entered concussion protocol and would never return to the game.

Pickett was replaced by Trubisky, who started the first four games of the season before being replaced by Pickett. Trubisky struggled in his relief role against the Ravens throwing three interceptions in a 16-14 loss
