Pittsburgh Steelers release Thursday injury report for Week 3

The Pittsburgh Steelers released their Thursday injury report ahead of a Week 3 matchup with division rival Cincinnati on Sunday.

The Steelers were without four defensive contributors in Thursday’s practice as well as a wide receiver. Three starters returned as full participants to practice on Thursday after being listed on the injury report through the week.

Did Not Participate

WR Diontae Johnson (Knee) – DNP

LB Alex Highsmith (Groin) – DNP

DE Carlos Davis (Knee) – DNP

CB Justin Layne (Achilles) – DNP

LB Marcus Allen – (Abdomen) – DNP

Wide receiver Diontae Johnson did not participate on Thursday after suffering a knee injury on the final play of the Raiders game. Johnson led the team in receiving in the loss with nine receptions for 105 yards. Linebacker Alex Highsmith suffered a groin injury against the Raiders after recording three tackles in the loss.

Pittsburgh Steelers second-year defensive end Carlos Davis missed Sunday’s game and is likely to be out for Week 3 as well due to a knee injury. Linebacker Marcus Allen was added to the injury report on Wednesday with an abdominal injury. Allen re-signed with the Steelers on a one-year contract prior to the 2021 season and has struggled with injuries through the early part of the season. The Penn State product suffered an injury in the Steelers’ final preseason game against the Panthers and though he has been active through the first two weeks of the season, Allen has yet to record a tackle in the 2021 season.

QB Ben Roethlisberger (Pectoral)

LB T.J. Watt (Groin)

Starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was a limited participant in Thursday’s practice after missing practice on Wednesday. Roethlisberger suffered a a pectoral injury in Sunday’s loss to the Raiders. Star linebacker T.J Watt suffered a groin injury in the loss against the Raiders. Watt suffered the injury in the first half and did not return. The Pittsburgh Steelers star was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice as well.

If Roethlisberger is unable to play, Mason Rudolph would likely get the start, though former first-round pick Dwayne Haskins is in the Steelers quarterback room as well.

LB Devin Bush (Groin)

Pittsburgh Steelers starting cornerback Joe Haden and starting linebacker Devin Bush missed Sunday’s loss to the Raiders with groin injuries. Haden was a full participant on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday. Bush was a full participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Tight end Eric Ebron returned to practice Thursday as a full participant after not participating on Wednesday due to coaches decision.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. EST.
