Where Najee Harris is from has always been important to the Pittsburgh Steelers running back and now that he’s in the NFL, giving back will be a top priority. In between NFL offseason workouts, Harris has put on a camp back in California, for kids aged six to 18 to participate in.

Harris put the event on for the first time this season and when it came to a conclusion, put out a heartfelt message. He thanks everybody involved for helping out where they could and even said camp will happen again next season.

“Appreciate everyone who camp out and supported my first annual football camp,” Harris said. “And thank you All who came out to help run stations, and drills. Hope you guys had as much fun as me. See you next year.”

Harris resides out of Antioch, California, and put the camp on in his hometown. Students from the entire city were able to work not only with the NFL running back but also with his volunteers. Getting top-level sponsors such as Nike and local businesses, Harris seems to think the camp was an overall success.

Next year will be Year No. 2 for what should become a long-standing tradition for Harris. While he plays his football in Pittsburgh, California will always be his first home.

Najee Harris taking time off to help reduced 2022 workload

As a rookie, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris finished second in the NFL in carries with 307 in the 2021 season. Looking ahead to 2022, the former Crimson Tide star doesn’t see himself carrying the ball quite as much.

“I am taking time off,” Harris said, via Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I will not be on the field for certain plays. We’re still going to talk about that, though. I do want to play. A lot. . . . Any time I can. But at the same time, it’s all about being smart. So I understand where [the Steelers] are coming from.”

With 307 carries, Harris rushed for 1,200 yards, which was fourth-most in the league, however, his 3.9 yards per carry ranked 38th. By plugging the talented running back in for better situations versus using him every down, the Steelers will likely improve his overall production. The key is striking the right balance.

Najee Harris’s backup last season, Benny Snell, had just 36 carries for 98 yards. The Steelers also have Anthony McFarland and Trey Edmunds on the roster to mix things up.
