The Los Angeles Rams agreed to a contract with Odell Beckham Jr. in the middle of the season following his release by the Cleveland Browns, and the two sides could be looking for another contract to keep him with the team moving forward. According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the Rams are optimistic about a new contract with Beckham after the Super Bowl.

“The (Rams) are very optimistic they will re-sign OBJ,” Mortensen tweeted. “Team brass and Sean McVay say he’s been a ideal fit. He’s impactful. Explosive. TD maker. He can max out his $3 million in incentives with a W today but the Rams are certain it won’t be his last paycheck with them.”

Beckham began his NFL career with the New York Giants in 2014, winning Offensive Rookie of the Year. He had at least 1,300 receiving yards in each of his first three NFL seasons, earning two AP Second Team honors and three Pro Bowl appearances. Following the 2018 season, Beckham joined the Cleveland Browns.

Beckham’s tenure in Cleveland was largely forgettable. He had 1,000 yards in his first year with the Browns in 2019, but followed it up with a disappointing season in 2020, hauling in 23 catches for 319 yards and three touchdowns in seven games. In six games to begin the 2021 season, Beckham had 17 receptions for 232 yards. The Browns eventually released Beckham, sending him to free agency in the middle of the season.

After contemplating between a few teams, Beckham ultimately signed with the Rams, agreeing to a largely incentive-based one year contract. In eight regular season games in Los Angeles, Beckham had 27 receptions for 305 yards and five touchdowns. Through three playoff games, he has 19 receptions for 236 yards and a touchdown.

Beckham on his decision to join the Rams

Joining the Rams has been a revival of sorts for Beckham. He has played exceptionally well within the Los Angeles offense, which is a welcome sight after the Rams’ No. 2 receiver Robert Woods tore his ACL days after Beckham joined the team.

Beckham has played alongside Cooper Kupp in Los Angeles, who has erupted with a historic year on the Rams offense. Playing alongside Kupp is something that Beckham is appreciative of, and he has learned a lot from him this season.

“Man, coming here and being with Coop has just been really amazing for me,” Beckham said. “You come in somewhere where they have their guy and you watch and you witness greatness between him and Stafford as far as the attention to detail, the relationship that they have. That’s everything that you want as far as a QB and a receiver. Details, the way he actually runs routes, the football knowledge, all of those things where we get to sit there and [converse] and I’m always going to gain off of someone else. It’s just been great, honestly.

“I’ve learned so much from him. He’s a great guy. Obviously, an incredible talent. I’m just happy that I made the right choice. Now, I just feel like he deserves this trophy and he deserves the ring … along with everybody else here, but I want to be able to help them finish the job.”
