Last week, news broke that Stephon Gilmore was signing with the Indianapolis Colts. Tuesday morning, contract details emerged about the contract.

Gilmore’s deal is for two years and worth up to $23 million, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The base value is $20 million and $10.51 million is fully guaranteed. In total, $14 million of the deal is fully guaranteed.

Gilmore will also make $10.02 million in the first year of his deal, according to Rapoport. The former South Carolina star agreed to the deal last week after spending last year with the Carolina Panthers.

Gilmore appeared in eight games last year for Carolina, including three starts. He had 16 total tackles along with two interceptions for 13 yards. He also earned his fifth Pro Bowl appearance.

The Buffalo Bills drafted Gilmore as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and played five seasons in Buffalo before heading to New England. That’s where he became a star, making three straight Pro Bowls from 2018-20 and winning the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. Now, he’s heading to Indianapolis, which is under new leadership on defense. Gus Bradley is taking over as the Colts’ defensive coordinator after Matt Eberflus left to become the Chicago Bears head coach.

Indianapolis went 9-8 in 2021 and just missed out on the playoffs after losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 18. The Colts made sweeping changes this offseason, though, trading for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan after sending Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders.

Colts trade Carson Wentz, acquire Matt Ryan

The Indianapolis Colts traded Wentz to the Washington Commanders for this year’s third-round pick from Washington and next year’s third-round pick as well, which could convert to a second-round pick depending on incentives.

Washington was looking for a new signal-caller following another seven-win season under Ron Rivera. The Commanders looked far and wide for a new quarterback this offseason, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“The Commanders called on every QB and end up with Carson Wentz from the #Colts in exchange for mid-round picks,” Rapoport shared on Twitter. “They weren’t going to wait for Jimmy G, didn’t land Russell Wilson. Now end up with Carson.”

The Colts then traded a third-round pick to the Falcons for Ryan. Ryan — who was selected third overall by Atlanta in the 2008 NFL Draft — has thrown for 59,735 yards, 367 touchdowns and 170 interceptions over the course of his NFL career. He was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year in 2016.
