Tony Dungy and Drew Brees commented on the recent statements made by Aaron Rodgers after he was held out of Sunday’s game for testing positive for COVID-19. The pair of NFL legends gave their stance on Rodgers’ recent comments during the pre-game broadcast of Sunday Night Football.

After sharing the comments made by Rodgers, in which he called out the media and critics of his for trying to “shame” him, Dungy and Brees expressed their disappointment in how he has let himself affect his team’s success.

“It’s very disappointing to me,” began Tony Dungy. “Aaron Rodgers, he’s saying people are going to come after me and it’s unfair. Aaron Rodgers has every right not to be vaccinated. We have other quarterbacks who chose not to be vaccinated but if you do — as the leader — you got to make every precaution. You’ve got to follow every rule, every protocol. Make sure you don’t hit that COVID list. You owe that to your team. You’re fighting for the playoffs. You can’t be unavailable.”

“Bottom line, there’s sacrifices that you have to make,” stated Brees in agreement with Dungy. “We went through this last year in the locker room. And those sacrifices were we can’t do the offensive line dinners like we would normally do on Thursday nights or you may not be able to go to the Halloween party, because the most important thing is that you are available for your team on Sunday so that you can help them win. I would like to think that if he had been out there today that would have been a much different result from Green Bay. He’s going to come back on Sunday if everything goes well but then he’s going to have to step right in and play against Seattle. So what happens there? Only time will tell and then how does this affect the playoffs? Does this become something pretty detrimental as far as how this playoff picture shakes out now?”

“There’s one bye for the NFC and they’re competing with the Rams,” finished Dungy on the subject. “They’re competing with Tampa. You lose a game here and there in this time period. That could cost you at the end of the year. You may have to play one more playoff game than normal. Aaron Rodgers to me did not do everything he could to stay off this [COVID-19] list.”

The Packers lost to the Chiefs 13-7 on Sunday, in a game that many feel would have been a Packers win if not for Rodgers’ missing the game. They fell to 7-2 on the season and will host the Seahawks at home this week.
